Expensive
The actual costs of the metro line as well as the proposed changes in existing bus
and tram lines have changed since the proposal: a clear cut case of 'bait and switch'. The
portion of the costs to be borne by the city's taxpayer at the time of the referendum was
75 million guilders, with the rest of the costs and potential cost overruns to be paid by
the central Dutch government. Amsterdam taxpayers now face a bill of over 800 million
guilders, as well as the responsibility for all cost overruns.
